twtxt.net

Home of Bender Rodriguez. Get off my lawn!

And here is one of my many nuggets of wisdom: "Yeah, well, I'm gonna go build my own theme park. With blackjack and hookers! In fact, forget the park."

In-reply-to » What's the most common feature set on these tilde gists? 🤔

@prologic@twtxt.net ahh! “Capability”. Minimum is terminal (SSH) access, and availability of tools present on an UNIX alike box. That’s usually the minimum, and the most common capability.

Many offer the ability to compile in a few languages, and to run your own programs and processes persistently, emails, web hosting, IRC (their own network), etc.

In-reply-to » There's this something about this Halloy #IRC client's look I can't find a proper word for. Aesthetically pleasing maybe? anyway, it feels nice.

@skinshafi@thunix.net I tried it (still have it installed on work laptop), didn’t like it. The comfort I get from having a web based IRC client (and bouncer) available at all times, from everywhere, can’t be easily replaced. :-)

In-reply-to » Found this … fancy … souvenir we brought back from our trip to Florida in the 1990ies. 😅 https://movq.de/v/167e8d04ef/a.ff.jpg

@movq@www.uninformativ.de LOL. I see flamingos, and I think of old people (group I am about to belong soon [well, kid says I am already there]), and pastel colours. Very stereotypical. :-)

In-reply-to » Did I write here already that the reason why I love Twtxt so much is that it works without having to compile, install anything extra. Just the bin applications that come with 95% of all operating systems and you're good to read and participate, giving you have a domain name somewhere to host the twtxt.txt file.

@johan@johanbove.info and a running web server (or Gemini, Gopher, though those might not work for everyone).

I don’t think a domain name is needed, but a public IP address.

In-reply-to » Problem 2: Your SSD-backed database has a usage-pattern that rewards you with a 80% page-cache hit-rate (i.e. 80% of disk reads are served directly out of memory instead of going to the SSD). The median is 50 distinct disk pages for a query to gather its query results (e.g. InnoDB pages in MySQL). What is the expected average query time from your database?

@prologic@twtxt.net I wouldn’t know! :-)

In-reply-to » [lang=en] Random idea: twtxt.txt files should be named tw.txt instead.

You can call it whatever you want, that’s the beauty of it. There is no need to set a “standard” for this. To prove it, I will setup one feed, and name the file “sørenpeter.txt”. 🤭
